LCP has self-reinforcing property: it has unusually regular fibrous structure, so the mechanical strength and modulus of LCP without reinforcing can reach or even exceed the level of tens of percent glass fiber reinforced ordinary engineering plastics. If reinforced with glass fibers, carbon fibers, etc., it is far more than other engineering plastics. LCP liquid crystal polymers also have excellent thermal stability, heat resistance and chemical resistance. For creep characteristics of most plastics, liquid crystal materials can be neglected, and have excellent wear resistance and abrasion resistance. LCP has good weather resistance, radiation resistance and excellent flame retardancy. It can extinguish fire without further combustion. Its combustion grade reaches UL94V-0 level. LCP has excellent electrical insulation performance. Its dielectric strength is higher than that of general engineering plastics, and its arc resistance is good. The electrical properties of the product are not affected when the temperature is 200 - 300 C. The intermittent service temperature can reach about 316 C.
LCP has been used in microwave oven containers and can withstand high and low temperatures. LCP can also be used for printed circuit boards, satellite electronic components, jet engine parts: for electronic and electrical and automotive machinery parts or components; also for medical purposes. LCP can be used as IC packaging material by adding high filler instead of epoxy resin as coil skeleton packaging material, as fiber optic cable joint sheath and high strength components, as well as filler material in separation tower instead of ceramics. LCP can also be blended with polysulfone, PBT, polyamide and other plastics to make alloys. The mechanical strength of the parts is high after moulding. LCP can replace glass fiber reinforced polysulfone and other plastics. It can not only improve the mechanical strength, but also improve the use strength and chemical stability. LCP is currently being studied for the outer panel of spacecraft and the braking system of automobile
