聚氯乙烯胶泥又称作PVC塑料胶泥，他是在煤焦油中加入聚氯乙烯树脂以及其他助剂提炼而成的，按照适温性可以分为耐温性和低温型，该防水材料具有耐酸碱腐蚀、耐候性好、粘结性强等优点。沥青胶泥属于环氧树脂型高分子防水材料，是以10号优质石油沥青加入环氧树脂再配以其他助剂辅料如滑石粉、云母粉提炼而成的，其粘结性、耐候性也是非常优良，能够耐酸碱、防腐。应用范围同聚氯乙烯胶泥基本无差异。

那么这两者的区别又在哪里呢？首先，他们首先在使用上有很大不同，聚氯乙烯一般是袋装的，形态为黑色固体状，使用前需要用铁锅熬制，待胶泥软化后才可以使用。而沥青胶泥一般为桶装，与聚氯乙烯胶泥一样一桶为25公斤，其状态为液体状或者为糊状（沥青胶泥分非下垂和自流平，非下垂为糊状，自流平为液体状），其开桶就可以立即使用。其次，两者在施工后的表现也有些许的差异，聚氯乙烯胶泥可以保证在夏季70摄氏度不流淌，冬季零下25摄氏度不开裂，且粘结性非常优良，但是沥青胶泥的表现就要稍微差些，冬季易起皮，夏季易流淌，长久表现来看比聚氯乙烯胶泥要差一些。
